Encore was originally founded by the Center Stage Theatre in 2006 to serve as an outreach program. Early in 2006, the board gave approval for creation of the CST Outreach Program, the brainchild of a small core of dedicated CST members, and appointed John Stutts as its first director. The purpose for the Outreach
Program, in keeping with CST's mission and vision, was to broaden the name recognition and appeal of CST's product to a wider segment of our Local area and to extend our art form beyond conventional limits-that is, beyond the traditional stage.
The CST Outreach Program made a great showing in 2006. The public response to our first official
Encore appearance at the United Way Days of Caring Kickoff on the Wayne County Courthouse steps was nothing short of amazing. From that first appearance, we received three more invitations to
perform. From those events, more invitations came. Before the Christmas season was done, CST
Outreach had performed more than a dozen special programs for public and private parties alike,
before crowds ranging from a few dozens to many hundreds. It was truly an exciting and gratifying experience.
While no one doubted that the program would be a success, the rapid rise of its popularity caught even the Director by surprise. And now, in 2009, Outreach events continue to grow. We've produced many dinner theatre productions such as Just Desserts, The Secret of Cell Block Seven, and Madame's Been Murdered-Tea Will Be Late, and the Dixie Swim Club just to name a few.
Now Encore has become Encore Entertainment and part of the Heritage Dance Foundation. The blend of music and dance into a complete musical theatre concept will allow Encore Entertainment and the Heritage Dance Foundation to produce enhanced joint projects for a larger regional area.
